In October 1871 the company Western Union began to provide money transfer services, drawing on its own extensive telegraph network. Number of active holders of "Golden Card" of Western Union amounted to 9.5 million people worldwide. In 1864, fearing the laying of long underwater lines, Western Union offered to carry out laying of telegraph lines to Europe through the Russian Alaska under the narrow Bering Strait and then to Siberia with branching in the major cities of Europe. Most service points of Western Union work in the time convenient for customers throughout the week and throughout the year. Founder of Western Union Hiram Sibley was born in 1807 in Massachusetts (USA). At age of 14 has mastered the profession of shoemaker, at age 16 he left his native cityand moved to New York, where he went into wool carder. In the Western Union in the 30s of the 20th century worked 14 thousand couriers delivering telegrams.
